Adoption

New Hope Family Services, Inc. (formerly known as Evangelical Adoption and Family Services) is a private Christian agency which is authorized by the State of New York to place children for adoption. We view our work with birthparents as a ministry; a ministry to help those women facing unplanned pregnancies to make a good plan for their child - whether that plan is toward parenting or adoption. Although they are often influenced by family and friends, we encourage birthparents to make the plan which they themselves feel is the best one for their child, and one with which they feel comfortable. When birthparents make an adoption plan they choose:

The birthparents we work with are able to choose an adoptive family by viewing profiles of our waiting couples. All of these couples have met the pre-adoption requirements for the State of New York and our agency. They have had all of the necessary background checks and have gone through approximately seven hours of interviews and ten hours of adoptive parent training. The profiles that our adoptive couples make are really similar to large albums which contain pictures and written material about themselves. The profile will include information on their family, any children they already have, their extended families, their hobbies and interests, their employment, their home, their community, their religious testimony, etc. Each couple must follow an outline but they have a lot of freedom in the actual design of the profile. This allows the individual personality of each adoptive couple to come through.

Birthparents can determine the degree of openness they want as they make an adoption plan. For example, they can have letters and pictures from the adoptive couple for as long as eighteen years, if they so choose. They can also write letters and send pictures to the adoptive couple and the child. There is also opportunity for a one-time meeting with the adoptive couple. All correspondence passes through the agency as we do not reveal the last names or addresses of either the adoptive couple or the birthparents to one another. All promises regarding correspondence are legally binding and become a condition of the surrender document that the birthparent signs. This guarantees that the birthparents will receive all of the letters and pictures they have requested.
