Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be difficult – especially if you do not know where to turn. But did you know there’s an agency that’s been around since 1965 – an agency that specializes in working with young women just like you?
New Hope Family Services is a not-for-profit Christian agency authorized to provide birthparent services throughout New York State. And at New Hope, we don’t just send you information through the mail. We’re happy to come out and meet with you in a comfortable location of your choice. We walk with you through the journey of your pregnancy, as you consider your options and make the best possible plan for your child, whether it be parenting or adoption.
As a birthparent you can choose a family for your baby by viewing profiles of our waiting families. A profile is a large album which the family makes about themselves. It contains information and pictures about them – their home and their neighborhood. You will learn about their educational background, what kind of jobs they hold, their hobbies and interests, and their faith. All of New Hope’s waiting families have met the pre-adoptive requirements of the State of New York and have been cleared through the necessary clearances. We’re confident we have a family that will be just what you’re looking for.
At New Hope, you get to choose how much openness you want. You can receive letters and pictures from the adoptive family for as long as 18 years. What’s more, if you so desire, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the adoptive family of your choice and get to know them personally. Some birthparents choose to continue meeting once or twice a year after placement.
Adoption allows you to:
A good friend of my mother told us about New Hope. We wanted to begin looking for the perfect family for my daughter. When we got there, we asked a lot of questions. Our caseworker was wonderful from the start. She was patient with our questions and answered them all with kindness. The birthfather and I eventually put together a list of qualities that we wanted in adoptive parents for our child.
We were then given a group of profiles to look through that met our needs. Each profile told the story of a family anticipating adoption. Before long, we had found exactly what we were looking for. It seemed too good to be true. Each page made the family look better and better. I gave birth to a beautiful little girl. While I felt an immediate connection to her and felt a love for her that I had never known, I knew what was best for my little girl.
I spent two days with her in the hospital, and then said my goodbyes. When I got home, a strange peace came over me. I knew I had made the right decision. My parents and I were fortunate enough to meet the adoptive parents I chose. We made an immediate connection that we still have today. We talked, hugged and shared pictures. We promised to always write to each other and send pictures. *
The support of New Hope, family and my friends have brought me to where I am today.
* Note: Each birth parent determines the amount of openness they would like in their adoption plan.
Thank you for your interest in adopting a child through New Hope Family Services, Inc. New Hope (formerly known as Evangelical Adoption and Family Services) has over 40 years of experience in the field of adoption and we are committed to meeting the needs of all those whose lives are touched by adoption; the child, the birth parents, and the adoptive parents.
Adoption has been likened to the grafting of a small branch into a healthy tree. Grafting means not only permanence and stability for the branch but also change for the tree. For that reason, New Hope is not only committed to placing children, but also to helping prepare adoptive parents for their unique responsibilities and to make the adoption decision a positive one for both the child and his/her birth parents.
New Hope Family Services, Inc., is a private, voluntary, not-for-profit corporation that is authorized by the New York State Department of Social Services to provide adoption, foster care, and related counseling services. Although New Hope’s office is located in Syracuse, the Agency provides adoption services throughout New York State.
